JEWELLERY CARE

Filthyy jewellery is made from recycled sterling silver (also known as 925) made to last you a life time.

Sterling silver does have the possibility to oxidise (turn black) when left unworn for periods of time. This happens due to being exposed to air. The best way to avoid this is to wear your jewellery as it prevents oxidisation from occurring. However, if your piece has started to tarnish or oxidise, there are a number of ways to clean your jewellery.

DIY:
A quick google "how to clean your jewellery at home" will tell you to put aluminium foil in a bowl (shiny side up) and mix bicarb soda and dishwashing detergent with boiling water. Leave it to soak for 20-30 minutes and you will begin to see the gunk come off. Scrub with an old tooth brush and viola! Good as new!

FANCY CLEAN:
If you're an extra filthyy human and your filthyy piece just needs that extra polish and clean up, we offer a polishing service for $30 plus postage both ways. Please email us if you require this service.

EXTRA INFO:
A metal specific polishing cloth will do you wonders to keep your jewellery clean and shiny. Please be mindful that sterling silver can scratch rather easily over time as you wear your piece. This is not a manufacturing fault, rather the nature of the metal. You can take extra steps to care for your jewellery and remember that it has been made to last you a life time of wear. Although silver is perfectly fine to get wet, it is good practise to avoid wearing your jewellery while swimming and bathing. As well as applying skin care, make up and perfume. This is particularly true for jewellery with gemstones. As certain products and chemicals in your household can cause certain gemstones to discolour or become dull. To ensure the longevity of your piece, we advise you to remove your jewellery before doing the dishes/cleaning, as well as carrying out strenuous activity. And for the love of god, never ever get your pearls wet. You're welcome xx
